Sarah Hanger is a practice manager of an Orthodontics practice in Virginia, where she sees parents and kids all day long. Many people think that orthodontics starts in the teenage years but Hanger knows that children can start as young as seven.
Sarah Hanger realized she needed to create this book when giving a presentation about orthodontics to a group of elementary school kids. She wished she had a book to help her along and found there wasn’t one, so she decided to make her own.
“ I took that obstacle as an opportunity and decided to write something so that other families, and dental professionals as well, would have a resource that could connect to kids individually,” Hanger said. “It was one part being an orthodontic professional, and then also being a mother, and understanding how valuable these resources can be for kids.”

Sarah is a Virginia native. She earned a Certificate of Specialization in Leadership and Management through a program at Harvard Business School and is also currently completing her Bachelor of Science majoring in Individualized Study with a concentration in Healthcare Leadership at JMU – GO DUKES!
After a decade in the field, Sarah became a published author of the illustrated children’s book, “My First Visit to the Orthodontist” to further educate kids and their families on the specialty of orthodontics. When she’s not in the office she’s a busy mama to her two kids Cora & Hudson and also enjoys traveling with her husband.
